Preventing Sales To Minors Inside Retail Stores

There are many ways for vapor shops and retail stores to ensure accuracy of identifying minors. This section addresses different methods and policies that may or may not be positive additions within your establishment.

The federal government requires an individual to be 18 years of age or over to purchase vapor products. Many states require the individual to be 18 as well, but some have raised the age to 21. Be sure to research the laws in your state to be compliant.

  • You should always verify age of any individual who appears to be 35 years of age or younger.
  • You should always have an age verification system or software available for your employees to use
  • In the event that one system fails to identify a form of identification, you should always have a secondary program or software in place, such as an app or computer program.
  • All age verification should verify the form of ID against governmental records
  • All online sales should have a process in place that verifies ID against a government database. (Putting their age or date of birth in an open field column is not acceptable age verification)
  • You should train your employees extensively on all software and the process your establishment requires.
  • You should always have written policy and procedures regarding your process in place for all employees
  • Lastly, if you feel uneasy about a form of ID, refuse the sale.
